had Mahatma been just Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

Just think, had there been no Mahatma...no Mohan das who gave the weapons of truth and non violence to the masses of India, who lead the Independence Movement.

Some people (mostly those ostentatiously publicising their patriotism) would say without him, we would just not have got independence. India would have remain enslaved till date and many such scrap. I do not believe any of those because I believe the movement was not a one man effort, and had we not had Mahatma, someone else would have led us...may be subhash chandra bose, may be Patel, may be Bhagat singh may be someone whom we do not know as we do not know Mohandas...we only know Mahatma.

In fact, I believe there were a few mistakes committed by Mahatma...like calling off non cooperation movement after chauri chaura...such violent incidences kept happening in later movements like civil disobedience, quit India etc. but he never called off them. May be he knew he had made a mistake, but was not audacious enough to accept it in public to tarnish his unblemished image.

Undoubtedly, he made a lot of self sacrifice but the statements like "Thanappa ki haar meri haar hai" made after thanappa supported by him lost in congress president's election to netaji, do display a bit of his arrogance.
So, I do not think that he was a GOD or he did everything right but nevertheless I accept the fact that he was one of the largest mass leaders world ever saw and a dedicated son of the nation who toiled hard to get her mother freed from the chains of British rule.

I think Mohandas was an honest man and who knows except for the fortuituos circumstances, this Mahatma might have just lived like a common Indian........a very common roadside walker whom leave history, even his neighbours do not remember. And, I feel that somewhere inside his heart, Mahatma too knew it well that he was no special.....not a gifted man in any sense. and, his samadhi is rightly dedicated to the unknown martyrs of the nation...Hats off to Mahatma

Yes, hats off to Mahatma. Interesting post. Thank you. I found your blog by keying in the worlds "non-violence" at Technorati. It came up with three blogs - yours was one of them. I hope you write more on Gandhi and non-violence. And please visit my blog. Please check out the sidebar where I have started a new blog called Zone of Peace. I am interested in learning about the feasibility of non-violence - using peaceful means with which to battle violence. I would be interested in your views. Thank you again. Regards from Ingrid in England, UK.
